Vacation and Travel Savings

Wherever you travel (Caribbean, Europe, Las Vegas, Hawaii, anywhere), if you shop online for vacation deals, it can pay off in a big way. I NEVER travel without checking out all possible on-line deals.

You can find airline vouchers and credits on eBay and Craiglist for a fraction of the cost. You want to be sure to carefully review each listing before bidding of course (read the small print) AND purchase only from sellers with a great feedback record. I've purchased airline credits on Craigslist without trouble and I've also ran across fraudulent sellers. An airline credit is pretty much the same type of credit you'd receive at a store if you returned something. There are lots of people who purchase non refundable plane tickets and end up cancelling. The airline refunds their money, but in the form of a credit for future flights. Many people sell these credits to try to recover their cost (or some at least) if they aren't planning to travel anytime soon. There are also many timeshare owners who are always looking to sell their week(s) to others for a much better price than you'd be able to get at any hotel.

We traveled to Maui last year and spent $500 for $800 worth of airline credit that nearly covered our round trip flights (our R/T airfares totalled $950) and only $1,000 for 7 nights at the Kaanapali Beach Club (ocean view). I found both the airline credit and resort rental on Craiglist (the timeshare owner was on a local post while the airline credits were ironically purchased from a Hawaii listing). That's $1,650 TOTAL for 7 nights at a beautiful Maui beach resort and airfare for two. I priced the same vacation on Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays for around $3,500. It can take some surfing time to find the travel bargains. If you're on a tight budget like I am, it's well worth it. It allows me to travel to places I wouldn't be able to otherwise.

Remember there won't be any travel insurance if you book your vacations this way, but when I'm saving around 50% on flights and room reservations, I could care less. I usually don't book my travel reservations unless I'm sure I'm going to follow through with taking the trip.
